This policy explains what information The Silver Maniac (https://thesilvermaniac.com/) collects when you visit, how it is used, and the choices you have. We keep it short and in plain English. If you have a question, please reach us through our contact page.
Who We Are
The Silver Maniac is a blog about stacking and collecting silver. The site is hosted on WordPress.com, which is run by Automattic Inc. Some of the tools described below are provided by Automattic and other third parties.
Information We Collect
We only collect what we need to run the site. That includes:
- Email newsletter: if you subscribe, we collect your email address so we can send you posts and updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
- Contact form: if you send us a message, we receive your name, email address and message so we can reply.
- Comments and likes: if you leave a comment or like a post, the information you enter (such as your name, email address and comment) and your IP address are collected by WordPress.com.
- Usage data: like most websites, our host keeps server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages visited) for security and to keep the site running.
Services We Use
- WordPress.com and Jetpack (Automattic): hosting, security, server logs, Jetpack Stats analytics, likes, comments, the email newsletter and the contact form. See the Automattic Privacy Policy and Jetpack privacy information.
- Akismet: comments are checked by Akismet to filter out spam. See the Akismet Privacy Policy.
- Live silver and gold prices: the prices on our site are loaded in your browser from gold-api.com. Like any web request, this may share your IP address with gold-api.com.
- TradingView chart: the Silver Price page includes an embedded chart from TradingView. When the chart loads, TradingView receives the page address and your IP address and may set its own cookies. See the TradingView Privacy Policy.
Affiliate Links
Some links on this site may be affiliate links. We may take part in affiliate programs such as Awin (including JM Bullion and SD Bullion), Money Metals Exchange and Amazon Associates. If you click one of these links and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network may set a cookie in your browser so it can credit the sale to us. We do not receive your payment or order details.
Advertising
The site does not show ads from an ad network today. We may add advertising in the future, for example through a network like Mediavine. Ad networks may use cookies to show personalized ads. If we add advertising, we will update this policy first.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. This site uses these types:
- Essential: needed for the site to work and stay secure, such as remembering your details when you comment.
- Analytics: Jetpack Stats helps us see which pages are popular, using aggregated data.
- Affiliate: set by retailers or affiliate networks when you click an affiliate link.
- Embedded content: set by third parties such as TradingView when their content loads on our pages.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Most browsers also let you block third-party cookies only. If you block all cookies, some features may not work as expected.
How We Use Your Information
- To send the newsletter you signed up for.
- To reply to your messages and comments.
- To understand which content is useful and improve the site.
- To keep the site secure and free of spam.
We do not sell your personal information.
How Long We Keep Data
We keep newsletter emails until you unsubscribe. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to answer you. Comments, and the information attached to them, are kept as long as the comment stays on the site. Server logs and analytics data are kept by WordPress.com under its own policies.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (in Europe) or the CCPA (in California) may give you rights over your personal information. You can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is wrong.
- Delete your information.
To make a request, use our contact page. We will respond within a reasonable time. For data held by third-party services, you may also need to contact them directly.
Children’s Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Links to Other Sites
Our posts link to dealers, news sources and other websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Please review the privacy policy of any site you visit.
